The new Clash video collection CLASH LIVE: REVOLUTION ROCK is in stores this week.

Punk rock was a visual and physical manifestation, an explosion of emotion and energy that went beyond language. While the Clash was known for their politics and social commentary, their artistic expression was as much through the physical as the written word.

Appropriately, THE CLASH LIVE: REVOLUTION ROCK tells the story of the band the most fitting way possible, through their live performances. From their early club performances to the blow out arena shows, this is the Clash at their best, all emotion and electricity. Directed by longtime Clash collaborator Don Letts, the set features 22 tracks, including rare and previously unreleased gems, including songs from the Manchester 1977 Elizabethan Suite show and U.S television appearances on Fridays and Tom Snyder. As bonus extras, two Bonds-era interviews with the band are included.

Set in the UK of 1978 and filmed as a fictional documentary, Rude Boy follows Ray (Ray Gange) as he quits his job in a London sex shop to become a roadie for the most exciting live band in the country – The Clash. Part character study, part “rockumentary,” Rude Boy portrays the disillusionment of youth at a time of economic decline in late ’70s Britain.

At the center of it all, however, is the most stunning, furiously alive and visually superior footage of The Clash that has ever been recorded. Filmed on the road with the band during their 1978 “Clash on Patrol” and “Sort It Out” UK tours, the film captures the frenetic live energy of one of rock’s most influential and exciting bands.

Mick Jones

Mick Jones (né le 26 juillet 1955 à Brixton dans la banlieue de Londres) était membre du groupe de musique The Clash en tant que guitariste et chanteur, mais sans être le chanteur principal qui était Joe Strummer. Cependant il a chanté quelques chansons telles que Should I stay or should I go ou Train In vain. Il abandonne son groupe London SS en 1976 pour fonder avec Joe Strummer The Clash. Il écrivait généralement les mélodies pendant que Joe Strummer s'occupait des paroles. Après avoir été renvoyé des Clash en 1983 car ses gouts musicaux ne coincidait plus avec ceux du groupe, il forme son propre groupe, Big Audio Dynamite (également appelé Big Audio Dynamite II, Big Audio et B.A.D.).

Il est plus tard devenu producteur de disques. Ainsi il produit, entre autres, les deux albums de The Libertines et le premier album de Babyshambles

La Saga des Clash

Les Clash sont certainement, avec The Police, le groupe le plus important issu de l'explosion punk – new wave qui a balayé l'Angleterre à la fin des années 70. Leur musique, qui voyait se mêler pour la première fois le rock, le reggae, le dub, le psychédélisme, le funk et le disco, a profondément influencé des nombreux groupes et artistes actuels, qu'ils soient anglais ou américains. Saga ressuscite l'histoire des Clash, leur énergie et leur foisonnement musical, à l'occasion de la sortie du coffret "The Singles Box Set" qui célèbre le trentième anniversaire de la formation du groupe.
